With proper hair care you can expect your extensions to last approximately 1-3 years, when done properly. To get maximum usage out of hair extensions, you must treat the hair as if it were growing out of your own scalp. Below are some tips that we have learned over the years.
We recommend using a non-sulfate conditioner to co-wash your hair as needed. Using shampoos frequently can cause the hair to strip it of its moisture. In our experience co-washing is effective in getting rid of grime and is a lot more gentler. Rinsing with cold water can help close the hair cuticle and leave it more shiny.
Shampooing hair is only recommended frequently if you use excess products on hair. Remember to use a non-sulfate shampoo to prevent dryness.
3. Heat protection
After washing hair ALWAYS let it air dry, avoid using heat as much as possible. Blow drying hair after every wash causes unnecessary heat damage. When using heat styling tools always use a heat protectant.
4. Trimming Ends
Yes! Trim your hair’s ends, trimming your hair will prevent hair breakage. We recommend doing this every 8 weeks, if you wear your hair daily.
5. Curly Hair
When managing curly and kinky textures, DO NOT comb hair dry and always use a water based styling product like curling cream or mouse. Use a wide tooth comb or your fingers to comb through, while wet.
Hair is a dead protein, to have healthy hair extensions you must protect and preserve. Once hair is cut from the donor the cells are dead if there is no reviving it. You can only take care and preserve the condition it is already in.
